January 20 – That brat next door got a snowmobile and had the audacity to race it around my house at 11 o’clock last night! The idiot that drives the snow plow got it stuck at the bottom of our hill, and had the nerve to come banging at the door asking if he could borrow a shovel! I told him I’d already broken six this winter.
January 27 – I didn’t think winter here could get any worse. It warmed up a little, rained, and then turned to sleet and freezing rain. We have a three-inch cover of ice all over everything. Couldn’t get up the hill, so couldn’t go to work! Doesn’t the weather man know I don’t have any comp time? How can I pay these huge heat bills? Turning the thermostat down to 68 doesn’t help either. Wearing heavy sweaters in the house–oh yes! Forgot to mention that the insurance didn’t pay for all the damage done by that old tree…half of the repair work wasn’t covered because we authorized repairs before they said it was ok! There goes my tax refund! I put in a complaint with the Sheriff’s Department about that dratted snowmobile. And they had the never to print it in the paper, “7:10 pm received complaint of a noise heard in Bonaparte.” Noise! I can hear that contraption through ear plugs! Will add the final entries tomorrow for this awful winter. Ezekiel

The last entries to “An Iowa Winter”
February 2 – Guess who saw his shadow today! Six more weeks of utter torture! The heat bill is already larger than last week’s paycheck!
March 2 – Warmed up to 80 today and suddenly the sirens started–found out it was a tornado warning! The wind blew most of the shingles off the kitchen roof. That does it! I’m putting up this exasperating dump on the market! Hope some screwball buys it.
May 7 – Sold that old firetrap for $10,000 less than I paid and bought a wonderful property in Georgia! Now this is paradise – the last time it snowed here was 1987. I can’t believe that I was snookered into buying a house in Iowa by that con-artist real estate agent! So, what if he’s my wife’s cousin! Sold that rust heap car to the devilish brat next door! He’ll finish tearing it up soon anyway. I bought six dozen postcards today – every other day this winter I’m sending one to that snowplow driver in Bonaparte! ezekiel
Haha, maybe we should all move to Georgia, except I think I like snow more than hurricanes!
