Don’t Go There!

Take a peek at the “gravel” roads in Davis County, Iowa.DC_Roads_08

There’s no place like home, if you can get there. Many have moved to town for the winter because of impassable roads.  Pulaski Mennonite Church had to meet at the Pulaski Fire Station as a result of the mud.  It looks like we’ll be able to get there tomorrow.  I have to go to church today for an appointment with my Spiritual Director so will get a sneak preview at the road.

We’re also going to install the new Da-Lite Cinema Contour screen we just purchased for PowerPoint presentations and other media on the wall.  It looks like tomorrow’s worship service will be our chance to show off this new piece of technology!  *Hmmm…I wish I would’ve taken the time to design something extra cool to display…  Oh well, the day isn’t over yet and it wouldn’t be the first time I wrapped up plans for Sunday morning in the middle of the night, whether due to a lack of planning, or just because I became engrossed in playing around with designing slides…:D*

Better scoot and get ready to go!  Love to all my family!  It was nice to actually see you late last night, Matthew!

  1. oh man, I’m glad I didn’t try to drive out to the farm while I was there.
Is it getting better? How’d you do driving to church yesterday?

  2. The road that goes to the church from the north has been fixed by private citizens. Apparently one of our own took it upon himself to help the overloaded county workers and maintain that road. Using their own tractor, blade, gravel truck, and whatever else it took, they scraped the tops off of the ruts to level it out, let it dry a little, and spread fresh gravel in the worst places. They did more blading after it dried some more. This was all done anonymously, I believe, but I happened to be on that road when I saw “someone” putting the final touches on those nasty ruts on Saturday. It’s still rough to drive on, but at least it’s passable now. The road from the east is another story!

I heard that the Amish have been dragging tires and boards behind their horses to try to level out the ruts. I wonder how long it will take to repair the city streets. I saw a pothole that was so bad, the steel reinforcement was sticking out. I don’t take that route anymore.
